Pros

Very challenging work. State of the art systems. Professional colleagues.

Cons

Unclear overall strategic direction. anxiety as market gets worse which is not answered sufficiently by management. Not enough growth opportunities. Overall strange atmosphere because of uncertainties of what the future holds. It is also not NXP's fault that they have such a large debt but KKR's they bought NXP for way too much and saddled NXP with the debt. Unclear how we will be able to start deleveraging...

Pros

NXP has inherited from Philips a good engineering culture and one works usually with competent technical colleagues. The number of paid holidays per year is a great advantage and there is usually the freedom to keep a good work-private balance.

Cons

The Dutch organizations are relatively laid back, slow moving and it is usually difficult to make rapid career steps. There is little reward for extra performance or effort, and hence motivation to excel can suffer.

Pros

The production employees on the manufacturing floor. They are truly committed to the success of the business. Even after numerous "take aways" they still remain focussed and committed to quality transactions.

Cons

At East Fishkill, NY, the upper management team does not readily practice open communication. There is enormous micromanagement being practiced and promotion of team against team instead of productive teamwork. During shutdowns or closings, senior managment wants to know names of employees working so that "they" can ensure the correct folks are in place, not the manager whom knows the area of the folks themselves. Engineering 1st line management, and the engineers themselves, will go to the Mfg 2nd line manager for any questions or requests instead of the Production manager. The 2nd line managers allow this to continue and when confronted with the topic they just state that they didn't mean anything by it.
