Great pay, okay environment

Pros

The pay is great, lots of freedom to work without a bunch of supervisors hovering.

Cons

Working shifts alone because people call out, stressful, not a ton of support from other medical staff.

Pros

Pay was good for social work

Cons

Geared around medical staff, not well set up for mental health staff. Bizarrely strict about insisting mental health staff come in during e.g. city emergencies when the roads were supposed to be closed, despite us obviously not actually being essential staff (i.e. we weren't there on Sundays). As with most parts of the correctional system, not geared toward good service for clients/patients. Lack of attention to worker rights (e.g. telling us we couldn't discuss salaries with each other, which is in fact a legal right, then only being willing to discuss it by phone during daytime business hours when I worked evenings.)

Pros

Pay. For people who can't handle change/new environments this could be a good job.

Cons

environment, coworkers. Unsurprisingly, it is tough being in prison all day, every day. It wears on you.
