Pros

The regular work force is awesome! They are well educated and motivated. Its a shame leadership doesn't understand that. The building is very nice but food services is cutting hours as they do not make enough money gouging the employees on their overpriced crap. The agency has done a nice job with the maxi-flex work schedule and being able to work through lunch so you can adjust your schedule around DC traffic. You will not find a more diverse, motivated, talented group of co-workers.

Cons

This space is not big enough. This used to be the best agency in the IC. We were important, relevant and respected. Our new leadership has crushed that. Movement contracts were torn up and they move you to new accounts every few years so no one is an expert on anything. Managers are a joke and for the most part are walking Peter's Principle examples. Morale is so low our agency motto should be "Row well and live 44!" (If you do not get that reference watch Ben-Hur.) Management doesn't care about you, your family or apparently the mission. They are staffed with Kool-Aid drinking "Yes men" and if you disagree with them you are labeled a trouble maker and told to resign. The good news is that the Reign of Terror can only last so long and we will get back to intelligence work. Hopefully the Agency will go back to being a 5-star agency.

Pros

Interesting, fast-paced, demanding work that changes as the concerns of the world evolve. Many opportunities to internally publish work products and to deploy.

Cons

Can be a hostile work environment. Many of the employees and managers are ex-military who have never worked in private industry, academia or not-for-profit. This translates into a culture that is heavily influenced with military training styles. In other words, it is common for a manager or team analyst to yell at you at the top of his lungs to "inspire" you to work longer, faster and harder. Some days even leaving your desk to go to the bathroom can trigger a yelling fit. Second, NGA seems hostile to women in general, though some country areas are worse than others. The openness of this hostility depends on unit management. Some of it is reflected in work load assignments and passive-aggressive behavior, but more commonly it is crude behavior and rudeness.

Pros

Federal government benefits, national security mission, many of my immediate co-workers are bright people who are enduring the same asinine policies that I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Cons

Senior leadership is whole-heartedly disconnected from reality. Current director is arrogant and will never admit fault. Think of "the emperor's new clothes", but at a government agency. New career services policy goes against any common sense or fiscal reality. Lack of investment in a functioning IT infrastructure speaks volumes about how inept management is at all levels of this agency. I could literally go on and on. Agency cannot hire people fast enough to keep up with the amount of people leaving in droves.
