Pros

Many opportunities for engineers - software, hardware, etc... Management encourages changes roles to find the right fit. NI hires talented engineers, so you rarely work with incompetent people. Work life balance is encouraged, and most managers are understanding if you have family, so you usually don't have to worry about working insane hours - except of course for the occasional release push. Also - Austin is a great place to live!

Cons

Salary can be low compared to competition... but make sure you look at cost of living when comparing - Austin is a fairly inexpensive place to live. NI used to operate like a small company with limited bureaucracy, but they've grown which means that shared processes can sometimes get in the way of development. So far management has mitigated some of this, and I don't think it is nearly as bad as other big companies.

Pros

Flexibility, fun environment, great co-workers, beautiful campus, decent cafeteria

Cons

Salary stinks, benefits are mediocre, promotions and job changes are for people who suck up to the right people, Managers can be very inexperienced leading to a lot of favoritism and an extreme lack of professionalism. Definitely not a "best place to work" (NI pays to be included on the fortune list of best places to work)

Pros

NI has many great leaders in the company, which is part of the reason they are so successful. Great balance of work and family. Good benefits. Great people.

Cons

Pay is below average for industry. Health insurance isn't as good as it used to be. Sometimes you can hit the "we've always done it this way" attitude, which stunts growth.
