Not what it used to be, even 5 years ago.

Pros

Interesting work and truly brilliant people (for the moment). NI allows you to discover where you can be good. Work life balance is reasonable but not what it used to be.

Cons

Salary is a joke. Think getting a promotion will help? Think again. Even with promotions you have to wait until the pay cadence comes around. If you are promoted with the same group plan on doing both your old job and your new one; both for that tiny increase. Back-fill for that old position? Again, keep dreaming. One of the big problems with no back-fill is that the work-life balance becomes a thing of the past. When a co-worker leaves, you can count on having to do their work since your manager will not be allow to hire.

Pros

You get to work with cutting edge instrumentation tools. Most of the teams are friendly and great to work with

Cons

Pathetic pay. Management is mired with favoritism. Don't bother working here if you are not a native Texan. This does depend on your team though.

It's time to pivot

Pros

1. A great place to start your career. 2. Immense learning from peers who are ever willing to help 3. Tons of opportunities to learn from other teams

Cons

1. Compensation 2. Recognition 3. Trust I am surprised at the downward progression of a company I used to love and possibly idolize. It's a well known fact that NI pays average salaries for the market. Initially, it was OK given the overall benefits package but as the years progressed even that wasn't cutting it. The company definitely worked its way through the downturn without any layoffs. However, a lack of growth deemed as a direct correlation on the bottom line for employee compensation isn't fair on them when executives are being pumped with higher bonuses. Employer communication has gotten worse and there is definite lack of trust in management. Honestly, I feel bad about where things are after a decade of my association with NI.
