Overall, a good place to work

Pros

Home work life balance is good. Other employees are kind people who seem to genuinely care for each other.

Cons

Upper management is uninterested in what is really going on in the company and seem very disconnected from their employees. There is poor regular communication between upper/mid management that provides the level of detailed information needed for the worker bees who actually perform the work to do their jobs well. Attrition is also currently very bad and the previous loyalty and engagement that the company used to have is gone. All jobs are being offshored and it is a rotation of just getting stuff done to keep the lights on without regard to how the resulting systems/assets will be maintained or how useful and purposeful the work is. This is really no different from other big companies. Overall for a big company it is a good place to work (although the pay seems a little lower than other Austin based big companies.)

Nice people, pitiful compensation

Pros

Lots of growth opportunities. Awesome people. Neat projects.

Cons

Poor compensation culture - the idea that it’s normal to be paid significantly under market rate without increases for inflation is pretty consistent throughout the staff. Heavy focus on improving the company culture from employee to employee, but not from employer to employee. Not valuing employees by fair compensation sabotages the effort. Tons of meetings.

Great Culture, So-So Pay

Pros

My colleagues and the NI company culture are the two major reasons I enjoyed working at NI. NI seems to consistently hire personable, intelligent, driven and helpful individuals. Regardless of my team or position throughout my career at NI, I was always able to get assistance from my colleagues regardless of their title, level, department, etc. Anecdotally, anytime I scheduled a meeting with someone at NI, I always got a response and almost always got time with said individual(s). The culture is one of help, growth and investment in the individual.

Cons

My biggest complaint is that NI's pay generally lags behind that of like employers in the Austin area; ultimately, I decided to leave the company to take personal time off and, from there, find an employed that will pay me more.
