Pros

NI is a solid place to start your career. There is a fantastic focus on nurturing and developing talent, as well as hiring/promoting from within. Employees are also given a lot of freedom to take on their own initiatives. This combination of free and open with quality mentorship makes NI a big company that feels very small.

Cons

Compensation is always an issue, but I think that people feel underpaid because they compare themselves to similar titled position at other companies. The difference is that NI gives you high level positions very early on in a career, while other employers might require more tenure and advanced degrees. I am a Product Manager, a title that some people don't receive for 5-7 years after graduating (and possibly needing an MBA as well). I earned that title in three years after graduating with and undergrad degree.

Pros

The people. National Instruments does a great job of finding highly intelligent and dynamic people. The people I work with are my friends...not just "work friends."

Cons

While I'm satisfied with my salary, when I go recruiting I see what offers other companies are making. NI is defintely not the highest paying company out there. However, I feel the entire offer package including benefits, stock plans, etc, is very competitive.

Pros

NI is a great place to begin your career and gain valuable technical experience. Recent college graduates are given high levels of project responsibility. Within National Instruments there are quite a few directions you could take your career, as the company does work in many different areas. In addition, Austin is a beautiful place to live, offering something for everyone.

Cons

The compensation at National Instruments lags behind comparable jobs. Most employees at Microsoft are in their 20's or early 30's. Unless you are on track for management, this is not a company you should plan to stay at late into your career.
