Pros

Great company overall, good mission. Good benefits. Unlimited PTO. Ok salary, nothing extraordinary.

Cons

Terrible management. Lots of mandatory overtime. Bad culture. Unlimited PTO but somehow the management makes you feel bad about taking time off. Everyone is burnt off.

Pros

NLG is a learning organization. One of the best companies to start your career within the life insurance industry. At an employee level, career growth is great. Based on your performance, you can easily change positions to learn about multiple areas of the organization. Depending on your position, you will be able to learn about the organization as a whole. The organization is very focused on its internal and external customers.

Cons

Depending on your position, there are diversity issues between associates and leaders. At a leadership level, promotional opportunities are biased. Remote opportunities are limited depending on your position.

Pros

National Life overall is a decent place to work – they have good benefits including health and wellness centers, tuition reimbursement, employee discounts, and other perks some workplaces don’t offer. Depending on what department you’re in, there is room for development and growth. Most employees are hard workers and devoted to National Life’s values of Do Good, Be Good, and Make Good. The company understands the need for corporate social responsibility and lives these values through foundation grants, actively participating in the local community, and recognizing unsung heroes outside of the financial services industry. This is great for those of us who have a desire to work for companies that are making a difference and allow their employees to actively participate in the process.

Cons

The culture at National Life used to be much stronger. Unfortunately, this culture seems to be evaporating and servant leadership tenets that were once preached become less noticeable by the day. Top tier leadership seems to care more about leads and profit margins than living out our company values. They also seem to be out of touch with lower level employees who struggle to pay their bills. National Life is also lacking in diversity, particularly when it comes to its top tier leadership – you’ll find very few women or people of color included. This company used to have a big heart, hopefully they can find it again someday.
