Pros

National Math and Science has some of the brightest and most enjoyable people to work around, that all have one goal in mind: transform teaching, schools, and education in the US. Not only is the organization impacting the lives of many, they continue to discover additional avenues in order to reach more and more students. NMSI offers great benefit plans, including the opportunity to continue learning in your field with the tuition reimbursement program. Being able to collaborate and learn from the people within the organization is priceless. I'm extremely happy to have been giving the opportunity to work for NMSI and look forward to what the future holds for me as well as the lives we are transforming.

Cons

Like any young organization, NMSI has incurred bumps in the road as they continue to grow. I believe they are learning from these past mistakes to not only make it stronger in the current position, but to prepare it for its future success.

Great Mission, Failed Leadership

Pros

The mission of the original organization is very noble and inspiring. It makes it easier to wake up every day knowing that you're helping kids succeed and helping teachers reach their potential. Working with schools all over the country is rewarding and really fun.

Cons

From the CEO down the organization has zero leadership. The CEO is more focused on her political career than running a healthy organization. With that in mind, every executive is paid over $200k/year (google the 990 filing) while there have been several massive layoffs of the employees that actually do the work. Morale could not be lower and everyone who is actually capable of performing has found a new employer. Just an awful place to work.

Terrible leadership, staff PTSD, nepotism

Pros

The mission is very lofty and the majority of the staff are friendly.

Cons

There is no leadership. The company presents an image of success, but have had 2 rounds of massive layoffs in the past 2 years due to financial mismanagement. The surviving staff joke about making it to the next week. HR has been slowly eroding benefits and there is zero internal communication. A staff member died and it was only "officially" addressed after the rumor mill had made it unavoidable.
