Pros

You work in fascinating locations with fantastic recreational opportunities. You help others enjoy and connect to the landscape and cultural history.

Cons

You work for the US government which is malfunctioning now and in the the past 10+ years. You are paid lower wages and live in areas of high living costs. Promotions and hiring practices can be based on upon friendship or connection rather than qualifications. You are in red tape and getting anything accomplished is grueling, taking twice as long as it should...and I mean everything. The old way of having job security is gone even for good performance.

Pros

Great working outdoors and getting into nature, as well as interacting with/educating the public.

Cons

No longer stable, and ran very thin (understaffed).
