During my time at the association there were so many things that happened that made me question my sanity. These are a couple highlights A person in a senior level position slept through a leadership training on accountability. In full view of every manager level employee and above including every senior leader. I pointed this out and no one even bothered to wake him up. I had a week long argument about whether there was a cost of living difference between Chicago and DC. My stance is that there is very obviously a cost of living difference and because they wanted to make a low ball offer to a new hire their stance was that there is not. Don’t let any of the senior management there fool you, they do not care about you. If you care about your career this is not the place for you. AT ALL. You will be stifled at every turn by mid level leadership that is terrified of senior leadership and just wants to keep their jobs. It is a maddening culture that not only accepts but seems to embrace and encourage mediocrity. You will never in your life work with more people that you ask “what does that person do here”. If you are able to use useless corporate buzzwords you're a shoe in for a director position. Doesn't matter if you produce NOTHING and only add to the already toxic culture, just use the words synergy or paradigm and you're set. You will find a peppering of people there who are fantastic but they are all looking to leave. Anyone with a head on their shoulders and a limited tolerance for nonsense won’t stay long. I’ve read the other reviews accusing people at the association of racism and bias and I would agree with that. There is an undertone of misandry amongst the female managers and bias from African American leadership towards African Americans that don’t fit a certain mold. Just a sad state of affairs.
