If you are an African American and just satisfied being an employee without any growth then this may be for you.

Pros

The only good things about working at national vision was the PTO and the medical/dental benefits and the yearly tickets they give out for a free pair of glasses and coupons to hand out to friends and family.

Cons

First off, don't be good at your job if you are someone who wants to move around and try different positions in the company. They stick you where they want you and if you're not happy, oh well. They told me many lies about how I would always have an opportunity to grow and move around and i was stuck in the same position for the years i was there. False promises all the way. Then the management set you up for failing when it comes to times in and out. The policy states no lates but managers say you can get a five minute leeway. Also a lie, you'll end up in trouble from corporate and your managers will throw you under the bus. The pay isnt that good unless you're a licensed optician, the doctor or general/assistant management. All other roles without a license you get table scraps for pay. Barely survived to live with my pay honestly lived off scraps and most facilities such as these pay much better. I've asked around personally and this company by far doesn't appreciate the little people who help run the show. Front desk, techs, etc. All that matters to them is who is selling. I sat on an apprenticeship for two years but no one would take the time to show me anything except how to fix and dispense glasses. This corporation is just like the rest of them. They don't care about anything except their pockets. Biggest lie is they tell you they don't like to hire outside if there's people willing to move within, they'll be quick to hire someone with no experience so don't get hopeful on those false hopes and promises they like to feed you. I was asked multiple times about moving positions and said yes I'm interested and was blindsided with having new hires come in instead. And donyt expect opticians to help out with phones or anything else for that matter. They feel their job is to only sell and that's it. Won't even put a file away or answer a phone and when they do pick up the phone, the customer is placed on an immediate hold. They don't even bother to ask what they need, and when you have a customer that's one thing but this happens without customers in front of them. Its RIDICULOUS. Not an equal workplace. There's definitely favoritism that goes on and have had patients comment on it because it's that obvious. Not a team-player type of work setting.
