Pros

Nationwide really does care about their employees. Most recently (within past couple of years) they really have honed in to becoming a better company than their historical dull and stodgy insurance company. They really value diversity in many senses, and this allows employees to feel valued for who they are and sets a tone that there are many ways to do business and together we can find what works best. Also, Nationwide does a great job to nurture their employees and develop them and promotes from within, something that really encourages and inspires me to do my best every day and continue to learn and develop so that I can progress my career at the company.

Cons

One major downside is that Nationwide is an insurance company ... which for many may not seem like a fun and exciting place to work. There are of course pockets of areas that are not as turgid, but you have to find them and develop yourself appropriately to get in. Additionally, managerial communication isn't always passed on to the lower rank and file employees. It is quite difficult to answer to management when they ask for ideals on how to become a more innovative company when they haven't shared the specific goals and tasks that they we will be working on. How can I give pioneering ideas based on our capacity when I don't know what our future capacity will be?

Pros

Work life balance, benefits, good boss, importance placed on community service and volunteerism, on-site banking, blood donation, hair salon, and work-out facility. I feel my voice is heard and I work hard and know it is appreciated. I am treated fairly and equally.

Cons

There are no downsides to working at Nationwide (other than just having to work!). I have been here 11 years and have enjoyed the people and the work ethic Nationwide instills in its employees. I have made many good friends here and look forward to coming to work.

Pros

They pay you on time, mostly. They let you work from home sometimes if your special and jump through all of their hoops to make it happen and if you're in the right department. There is a tiny gym with showers and lockers.

Cons

We are now Nationwide Insurance, they're finally changing the name on the building, and that is a scary, scary thing. And no one seems to know what the outcome of that is. There is no privacy to make business calls since their "fantastic" idea to give us desks designed for 5 year olds so they can stuff more people into the cube farm. The lights are way too bright. The building is always under construction during business hours leading to more disruptions. Managers don't treat all employees equally, there is favoritism everywhere. Idiots are constantly being promoted, so if you're smart, act stupid and you'll be perfectly happy here. Also, you won't find a bigger group of 40+ year olds acting like drama crazed 13 year olds anywhere. It is really a toxic environment to work in. The cafe is awful and expensive for the slop they serve. 2% raises every year, it doesn't matter how hard you work or suck up to the man.....still want to work here? Oh did I mention that they have a really bad sick time policy as in you have to use your vacation days when your sick and if you violate the attendance policy they will threaten you because you didn't plan your sick time. (How do you plan an accident or illness anyway) Half the company is certified FMLA because of this reason.
