Pros

Big company. Competitive rates. Great support team and marketing material.

Cons

Corporate stonghold. Management trainging isnt always available. Nationwide only likes to insure certain risks, such as home and auto. Commercial and motorcycle insurance is a nightmare! We seem to always have IT issues, which take TIME to resolve. Overall, good place to work but has som areas to clean up.

Pros

Very nice coworkers who for the most part are satisfied in their work. The Company espouses worthy values that are disseminated throughout the organization, except for upper management. The values are pretty well respected by all.

Cons

No promotional opportunities due to layoffs and downsizing. I have tried many time to move into management positions, but the positions were filled by associate directors or others who received 60-day job cancellation notices due to downsizing.

Pros

The equipment they utilize is among the more advanced I have seen. The laptops are first-rate. The company vehicles are unmarked and among the better ones out there; Ford 500/Taurus... Nice cellphones and they allow you to choose the provider.

Cons

Although this is supposed to be a Fortune 100 company, it seems rather disorganized and employee morale is suffering as a result. Nationwide/THI needs better upper management and lacks strong leadership. The current director in the office I report to is not a great leader and lacks those skills to truly manage. This person treats us like children. This treatment isnt just isolated to this director, but seems to be rampant in the entire organization. For example, the usage of signage to promote things like values and ethics in the workplace. This seems reminiscent of elementary school. I dont need large signs telling me how I should act and have not seen this since I attended elementary school. I would like to be treated like a professional and on the same level as all other employees. Upper management seems like this private club which enjoys looking down on us the employees. In fact, if you go to the training center...if your not at the management level then you have to share a bedroom where as managers get their own hotel rooms. This doesnt seem to be treating everyone as equals. There is a lot of "deadwood" on the teams as mentioned by another poster. People who are not good performers seem to hold back the teams, but nothing is done to weed these persons out. Other companies have a testing process before you even get to the interview and then a probationary or training period where they see if you can last. This process isnt done at Nationwide. I have seen guys drive 200-300 miles in one day because another person did not do their share of the assignments. I have seen managers make every attempt to reform these poor performers, but in the end, the poor performer seems to win. Nationwide seems to reward poor performers by letting them continue to work thereby negatively effecting other people on the team. I honestly do not enjoy working at Nationwide. I'm looking for other employment, but the economy is not good right now and there isnt much opportunity. I come to work just looking for a paycheck and dont see this as a permanent destination. I enjoy being on the winning team and Nationwide/THI is simply not the team that wins. I wish I could say better, but these are my honest thoughts.
