Pros

You are responsible for all operations in Nuclear Reactors on board US Naval war ships. Your office is in the control room of nuclear reactors.

Cons

You are expected to be the best, but you will only get paid average. Overtime work is significant (nights and weekends) and often last minute. Your everyday task will be to get the unwilling, to do the unwanted, for the ungrateful.

Pros

The Pay and Benefits are great. Federal employees start with 4 hour sick and 4 hour annual leave every two weeks. Parking is free, and Pear Harbor Shipyard has a paid apprentices program where you can become full mechanic in four years. Retirement at age 56 and 30 years service

Cons

Some areas require you to work overtime. Security Clearance issue outside the shipyard can get you fired.

Pros

Job Stability is the #1 benefit of PSNS. Even the laziest of employees have little chance of being let go. Lots of vacation time. Decent pay (considering the relative difficulty of the work) Flexible hours, rarely any mandatory overtime (for engineers) Will pay for 100% of public transportation costs. Lots of great people.

Cons

Engineering work does not necessarily help you gain experience useful outside the shipyard Lots of bureaucracy. Lots of employees who seem more concerned with whats "easiest" for them, rather than what's best for the Ship Yard. MASSIVE management structure. Less than desired level of respect for the workers.
