Pros

Government benefits such as health, dental vision and government leave sick and annual are all reasons to work for this company. When starting out a a young engineer I thought pay bonuses and bigger checks were the ideal incentive; after a few years of working, I realized paychecks increase, but time off is valuable and doesn't always grow with every company!

Cons

The. Engineering work was not as technical as some companies may expect. It is fine if you find a good pocket within NAVSEA that does real engineering, but otherwise it's a lot more oversight. It can are it hard to leave the company and go to industry.

Pros

Great job security Awesome people Great pay Leadership cares about the development of employees

Cons

Not like most other Engineering positions Not much room for Design Engineering Level of security/regulation makes it difficult to be up to date on technology Not going to give you lots of transferable experience to the private industry outside of Nuclear Culture of not being as valuable if you don't work a lot of overtime, which wasn't really enforced or promoted by management in engineering (but was by waterfront management). More of an issue with the Shipyard culture.
