Pros

Good Pay and benefits. Once you put in some time you can explore other internal jobs.

Cons

There were a lot of curtailments so people could not use their leave. A lot of favoritism with supervisors, and turning a blind eye to ethical situations.

Great work and people, poor supervision

Pros

Some of the best people I've worked with. Great work, support the war fight directly, ensuring quality and cost efficient ships being built.

Cons

Substandard office buildings, poorly maintained and never cleaned. Poor supervisors in middle and senior levels. Empire builders and rice bowl watchers. Poor disciplinary practices, will use national security to punish, vice the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Insular and nepotistic, husbands and wives, friends, relatives. An active "In " crowd promoting it's own and marginalizing others. Fear for one's job is sometime palpable and when someone falls afoul the senior managers, they become a pariah.

Pros

- Work Life Balance, you can't take work home - Good vacation accrual, usually no questions asked when you want to take time off

Cons

- Good ol' boy promotion of unqualified and unprofessional managers - Top heavy with management - Saving taxpayer $ is not talked about and those who do try to improve are shut down - News idea are belittled - Good employees are overworked, undervalued, and never recognized - Poor hiring process. It is very hard to get in as an engineer if you weren't hired straight from college. This leads to all employees having the shipyard mentality with no new talent to diversify the pool. This also means that when good employees leave, the mediocre ones that are sliding by are the future leaders.
