Pros

It is a non profit federal job. So once you are in unless you completely mess up you dont have to worry about losing your job. The honolulu NEX is a HUGE family. For the most part we all get along and are happy at work. You have MWR privileges like free usage of military gyms, theaters and MWR sponsored classes. I am provided with a free bus pass and CAC.

Cons

The flex, part time, and full time tier is frustrating. Flexs are your entry position. As a flex you have no benefits, single digit pay, and a hard time moving up in the company. In hawaii if you are not local you are not welcome here. It is hard to break through that but if you are a positive person with a good work ethic it is possible.

Pros

Stable job, they will probably never go out of business or be subject to suffering from economic downturn.

Cons

Senior management incompetent, work hours are 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. No feedback, no positiveness, pay is a terrible, they sell their benefits which are not even comparable to other similar companies.

Pros

Great pay for the field. Excellent benefits offered after 90 days of employment. 401 K available after one year. Best leave and holiday program. 10 paid holidays and 4 hours annual and 4 hours sick leave per pay period. 6/6 for veterans and former military. Worldwide company with and excellent chance to travel the world.

Cons

Because this is a government retail establishment, there are certain unrealistic expectations of the employees. Also there are very limited promotions from within. Most management positions are filled from outside hires. Often a person working as a supervisor for 5 years in one location will have to train two or three new managers. This is disappointing and discouraging.
