Pros

You always knew when there was a sale going on.

Cons

They only hired people that knew people higher up. They didn't hire people that were qualified. Hard to move up if you don't know someone up. I was well qualified for the job and yet I didn't get to stay in the Main store instead they moved me to the Home Gallery.

Pros

Can make some good friends. Good balance of work-life - very different than working for an outside retailer. Can actually talk with buyers and make changes to merchandise assortment. Do have a change to apply for overseas jobs - but don't count on getting it.

Cons

Very political - its all in who you know. Even if you work really hard and do a good job in increasing the revenue if the regional manager doesn't like you can forget about going anywhere with the company.

Pros

The benefits are good, paid vacation and sick leave accumulates quickly. The atmosphere is pretty laid back- most days working at the NEX is fun. It can be fulfilling explaining to the retired sub vet how to use skype on his new iPad so he can keep in touch with his grandchildren in another part of the world. Training is hit or miss- I feel they overemphasize some things and others not enough, but I guess that happens everywhere.

Cons

The pay is low- minimum wage to start, and slow growth after that. Management tends to forget we exist until someone higher up is coming then it's a mad dash to perfect the store (which was fine to begin with). Promotion and recognition seems to be based more on who you're friends with than what you do on the clock. I work in a smaller store and it can be frustrating when we don't carry the same products the bigger stores do.
