Pros

Flexible work life balance. Nice people. Mostly over 50. Calm environment. Works well for those who like to work from home or live far.

Cons

Stagnant pay. No pay bonus or increase, no formidable perks of working for Network Rail, and upcoming voluntary and mandatory redundancies which will impact some negatively. Senior management are nowhere to be found, job roles lack meaning without direction, and generally a scattered leadership approach. Not much happening socially, as most prefer to work from home. Many people leaving NR for better paying jobs elsewhere.

Pros

Flexible working and a wider range of career choice to choose from should you decide to change course.

Cons

Most employees came through from the maintenance regime where professionalism is lacking and where 'bantering' is the norm. New employees are exposed to theses characters and tend to replicate their attitude. Generally, a well balanced workforce but opportunities for people from BAME background are not given a fairer chance of promotion.

Pros

Large company with lots of different roles/opportunities in many different locations. Flexible working possible. Still has a final salary pension scheme. Purpose of the company is a positive contribution to society.

Cons

Due to the pandemic, the rail industry has lost a lot of income and NR, being government controlled, is seeking to save £b's on operating costs. Previous good benefits such as the bonus scheme have been halted and there's been no pay increase for the last 2 years (so effectively a cut!). Reorganisations are frequent and job security is constantly under threat. Not a good time to be in NR.
