Pros

Once you're in, you're in Final salary pension opportunity after 5 years' service Can specialise in one area, or move around as you wish, you are free to decide the direction of your own career Better salary than a lot of industries, especially starting salaries for young people Opportunity for training and education paid for by the company e.g. APM courses, engineering degrees etc 28 days holiday (excluding additional bank holidays), and can buy 2 extra days

Cons

Getting a pay increase when you do a sideways move can be tricky if you're towards the top of the sub band in the transparent pay scales. You could always get a promotion, but if you want to stay in the same band you almost have to leave and come back again if you want a major pay rise. A bit more restrictive with money since it became a public owned company e.g. no christmas parties

Pros

Company that looks after it's staff and has a purpose worth getting out of bed for.

Cons

Rather too much reorganisation, less would be better.

Really do appreciate your comments and so good to hear of such a positive experience for you. There has been a lot of organisational change of late as we're working hard to remove bureaucracy and the Putting Passengers First programme is proving lots of opportunity for devolved decision making, something that we have seen really come into it's own during the COVID 19 crisis. Wishing you all the very best and thanks again for your comments.

Pros

*Good salary- more than private sector *Private healthcare *Career average pension (employer contribs nearly 9% I think?) and chance to get final salary pension after 5 years *28 days holiday + bank holidays *Flexible working *Unionised *Bonus up to 20% of pay * I believe there is enhanced maternity pay etc once you've worked there a year.

Cons

Takes a while to get used to organisational polices and procedures as everything is quite complicated.

What a great review, thank you so much for your comments. You are so right, Network Rail does take a long time to understand just due to the size and complexity of the business. We really value you sharing your experience and advice and wish you the very best for the future.
