Pros

It feels good working for an institution that genuinely wants to help the public. I have worked with some wonderful people.

Cons

Customer service is not for the faint hearted. People can be very entitled and rude, especially here in NY. Management almost always takes the side of the customer. They will try and get as much out of you as possible without compensating. Salaries are low and have not gone up. Not much room for growth once you become a librarian.

Pros

My hiring and onboarding experience with the NYPL has been a positive one. Throughout the process, all of my questions and concerns have been promptly addressed, and the particular attentiveness of their HR department has been stellar.

Cons

As a new hire, my experience has been positive thus far- and I look forward to it remaining so!
