Pros

Very good benefits, insurance, travel, corporate discounts and associated perks. Being able to interact with other business divisions within News Corp with expertise in their related fields. Competitive compensation. Global reach, with media outlets in most major countries and strong political "pull" in a few. Some "gem" managers that have found their niche and run great, small, efficient teams that do some great work.

Cons

There are some very mediocre mid-level employees that have been with the company for a long time and never contribute much, or have stopped "keeping up" with technology 5-10 years ago (IT related). Unnecessary outsourcing and over management sometimes complicates communication and project efficiency.

Pros

Ability to work on a variety of different things. Brand name company with growth potential. Working there impresses your friends--especially if they are conservatives. Colleagues are nice and try to be helpful. Lack of back-stabbing. Often can feel like a cozy family business.

Cons

Organization does not share information across different companies. Functions are very bureaucratic. Organization is a bit short -sighted. Management does not convey that they value higher education. It's a bit of a boys club. There is not a lot of communication from the executives suites. You often find out what is going on at News Corp from someone outside the organization. A media organization should be able to communicate to its own employees. Sometimes when you come to work, you feel like you are entering a black hole--one in which you have to figure everything out yourself. Physical offices are a bit sparse. Face time seems to be valued even if you can be productive working remotely. There is lot a lot of professional, mature support staff.

They just get it

Pros

They just get it - from strategy to culture. Of course there are variations from division to division, but in general, I've never seen people who weren't doing a good job advance -- not for long, at least.

Cons

As all companies as they grow, it's getting more political with time.
