Pros

Enjoy working with the majority of co-workers-except for the sharks. Have met wonderful customers.

Cons

Long hours, unappreciated by manager-SPH is all that matters, have to compete against department manager for sales. High level of stress for PTR, SPH and opening new accounts. High level of customer returns-which go against your commission for one year. Have to make sure your hours do not dip below 129 per month or you have to pay your full insurance premium. Not eligible for insurance until you have worked 1000 hours. Nordstrom promotes top sellers to management who have limited training. Definitely need a second income in the home to survive-especially in the current state of the economy.

Pros

It's fun to look around the store (on your precisely monitored 15 minute break), the staff is friendly, human resource department is very helpful and has it together, benefits are offered (but not until you work there for 6 months or some ridiculous amount of time)

Cons

Demeaning, bureaucratic... I worked in the spa and they took away internet privileges and stools for the client coordinator to sit when they weren't busy. The job is very boring and requires little to no skill or knowledge. A monkey could literally do this job. You also have to stand for your 8 hour shifts. Maybe that is why they pay hourly and not much more than minimum wage. Also, no commission on products for client coordinators. Overall a terrible job.

Pros

Great benefits. Discount. Nice customers. Beautiful store environment.

Cons

Store manager and many department extremely cliquish. No flexibility in terms of scheduling. After the training period, the honeymoon is over and they treat you like an indentured servant. I don't think store manager or most of the department managers know the first thing about managing people, listening, motivating and showing appreciation.
