Pros

Many of the staff working with me were genuinely very nice people. Many have worked with Nordstrom for over a decade. There are opportunities for you to grow if you are part of the in-crowd.

Cons

The job of a salesperson at Nordstrom is more than just ringing people up or helping with shoe sizes or fitting rooms. You are expected to take and process returns, approach people on the sales floor, clean up after people, manage customer disputes, and maintain your assigned section sometimes entirely alone. If you are not prepared to have the job of 3 or 4 different people while making less than somebody who works in fast food, please save yourself the trouble and do not work at this location. Every aspect of working at this location is exhausting and stressful. You make slightly above minimum wage with the promise of a commission check that never comes because your rate is often too high to be obtainable. Management can be vindictive and inconsiderate of their hard working staff. Every day you are reminded by the customers and management that you are replaceable. Closing shifts are long and grueling. People from other departments or even your own section will try to undermine your success or get you in trouble for menial things. This store operates less like a business and more like a high school. There are new rules and regulations imposed on a regular basis from management and corporate that make working here even more stifling each day. There is no work life balance, at this store and there is a chance for retaliation if you decide to take time for yourself. You are not allowed to have a set schedule aside from a few exceptions. Management will almost always side with the customer even after a customer is rude and abusive to the sales representatives. People are allowed to return almost anything from torn dresses, to dirty shoes, to used underwear. Nordstrom has a policy that essentially allows almost anything purchased to be returned. Including items purchased over 10 years ago. The customer base is entitled and does not receive proper consequences for poorly treating employees, missing scheduled appointments, or attempting fraudulent activities. There are many other clothing stores where you can make more money, have a more consistent schedule and work life balance while performing less labor. Go work for them instead. Very disappointed after my time at this employer.
