Pros

sales associates are given a lot of autonomy in their position, and allowed the freedom to use their best judgment in regards to decision making.

Cons

pay is commission only, and even if you are amazing at your job if your numbers aren't high enough you could be let go.

Nordstrom Rack....

Pros

Well, I worked in the Rack division. There are alot of hard working people in the Rack division. In my opinion, I have never seen a huge concentration of hard working people in one place. They have very good benefit package if you become a permanent employee there. Furthermore, the people you worked with (not necessarily management) are for the most part, great people. Being an associate on the floor is not a bad because like most retail companies there are very little deviation and most will be straighforward and/or very familiar.

Cons

If you accept a temp job in the Rack, there is little to no chance of being hired as a permanent employee, but they do not make this clear when they offer you a temp job, which is unfortunately really. In my opinion, do not take the temp job in exchange for your regular job because the Rack will leave you high in dry after 90 to 120 days unless your regular job is really getting to your nerves, but if not, then just make the Rack your secondary option and not primary. Furthermore, if you have an issue and wanted to speak to HR, you should corner the HR personally, so it is advisable to know where he or she is on a particular day because they will not return your messages at all, which is very unprofessional. Also, make sure you get a copy of policies on certain topics especially when management brings up issues regarding policies. Most manager will just say something about certain policies and you would be left wondering where they got it from, so ask for the black and white. Furthermore, it is an ass kissing environment for the most part, which is natural in the retail business.

Pros

The place schedule is flexible and most managers are nice. Most of the employees get along and they work around school schedule.

Cons

Other than the customers being so picky and the company tries to provide superb customer service gets annoying. So, that's that
