Pros

great pay for skilled labor (sewing in alterations). willing to accomodate when child sick at school. nice coworkers in department. salespeople managers and customers request your service as a fitter when you make them both feel good and look good, which is sign of good customer service. 20 percent discount on everything except alterations (which i do myself at home). can trade with coworkers for days or times if u have an upcoming personal event, as long as hours are equal. nice lunch room with tv/micro/fridge/sink/window to outside world. clean store; most people pick up after themselves. occasional 30 percent discount during employee-only sales a couple times a year.

Cons

retiring manager hired people of same cultural background as hers (foreign-born), saying the rest of us wouldnt have hours cut... guess what? i was not of her background, she eventually gave them more hours then i had at fulltime, and eventually i was cut to one or two days a week, sometimes not even an 8-hour day. she would sometimes redo a sewer's work to keep him in good standing. not fair at all... his work would come back for realteration a few times a week. mine came back only three or four times in three years, plus i was requested frequently by high-dollar regular customers. manager was visibly jealous and questioned me in front of my coworkers. they were shocked by some of her negative comments and speak up for me, but i was still let go. same manager RETIRED SIX MONTHS before my layoff and she was still consulted in my release. i was tested by upper mgmt... she was buddy/buddy with same manager (LONG PERSONAL PHONECALLS WITH EACH OTHER during work hours we could all hear in office). something is wrong with this picture.

Pros

The pay is great. You work on commission so you're in charge of how much money you end up making.

Cons

Since the work is commission based, it can get competitive between employees on the sales floor. Each department is different
