Pros

Fantastic corporate culture at headquarters. Management & employees are professional, respectful & gracious. Overall, people seem happy and the environment is very upbeat. Perks: the downtown Seattle location is great fun, with tons of places to eat & shop. The discount is fantastic, and the atmosphere in the office verges on glamorous - people are dressed beautifully and most of them display excellent manners.

Cons

There is an imbalance between the cost of living in Seattle and the pay at Nordstrom. There is no bonus structure for my position, and no annual salary review. Health insurance and 401k matching are a little better at other companies. Additionally, it can be difficult to get honest feedback on performance.

Pros

Great commission scale, stellar benefits, interesting environment. I worked in the women's shoes department during my college years, during the yearly sales I would come home with $2,000 for 2 weeks work for a college student. They have a great reputation, and their customer service history looks great on your resume. High percentage of female in management and very diverse workforce. A handful of salespeople made over $100,000 for the year.

Cons

Nordstrom's lax return policy will reduce your commission. Many hours due to retail. Extremely slow after holidays, beware of layoffs after the busy season.

Pros

The environment is positive and the salary is acceptable as opposed to many other retail organizations. There are some special employee discounts given at times which can be very helpful during the Christmas holiday season. There seem to be endless opportunities for young (high school age) people to start in sales and work their way up into management in a short amount of time.

Cons

Retail can be tough in general because nights and weekends and some holidays are required. Although most of the employees are pleasant, there are some who have anger issues, drug issues, family issues, etc that spill over into the workplace.
