Pros

Nordstrom stems from a long line of tradition and the culture is unlike any other place. It's a great place to work your way up and be successful especially if you don't have a college degree. The company is continually growing with new stores opening every year.

Cons

Management training is lacking so it turns into a blind leading the blind type of situation. The company is not at all what it used to be and the constant restructures leave lots of people out of a job or in a demoted position. The salary is not all that competitive and lateral moves are considered promotions. There is a large salary gap between upper and middle management and opportunities for advancement seem to become more and more rare. There is no assistance for continued education and sick days are wrapped into your accrued vacation time (i.e. you have none).

great atmosphere for someone who loves fashion, they focus on using your good judgment and being able to create your own path

Cons

i found that the opportunity of growth was actually quite limited. it was a disappointment, because of everything i'd heard about the company that made me want to apply to begin with. however, now that i'm employed elsewhere, if my "dream" job were to appear at Nordstrom, I would re-consider applying, because I absolutely love fashion and it's a great atmosphere for someone who has a passion for it.
