Pros

NGHS has excellent equipment, facilities, and wide range of patient care services/supplies always close at hand. Despite it's size their is a great sense of family. Changes are being made that hopefully will improve INADEQUATE staffing and retention issues. If you want extra work or a little overtime, the opportunity is there. Overall, NGHS is a great place to work! Benefits are adequate. Training is excellent. Staff typically work with smiles on their faces and a can do team spirit.

Cons

The largest barrier to providing an optimum work environment and patient care is the institution of the electronic environment: Paragon. Inadequate staffing issues prevail due to reactive management style rather than proactive, a disconnect between administrative/patient care goals and staffing needs, and lack of using affordable resources such as PRN & Float Pool staff, the LPN, and the PCT . NGHS ignores the cost-effective care value of LPN's by not using them in roles commensurate with their education, thus, failing the RN and the patient in the Acute Care setting. Compensation is mediocre and recent reductions to pay scales, causing many in-place compensation rates to decline significantly, has lowered morale and caused loss of tenured knowledgeable staff RN's.
