Pros
You get some perks as being part of a higher education employer (Christmas vacation weekoff.)
Cons
There is much less here than meets the eye. Many colleges give you Fridays off in the summer. Northeastern does this in some departments/colleges. However Advancement does not because we are apparently so committed to the capital campaign. The school advertises great health insurance, workout facilities, etc. as part of the recruiting process. However, the copays are high, the insurance won't pay for a lot of high end procedures and tests, and there is an almost market rate membership fee for for the gyms (which are very crowded with students). The library is solid and free to use. :) The Adv. Off. is a highly politicized pressure cooker. They churn staff at a brisk pace. I wouldn't recommend working there if I had young children or medical issues. They fired a colleague for reasons that I'm pretty sure had more to do with the person being a senior citizen than work performance. Adjuncts are treated like dirt. The administrators talk about them like a subhuman slave labor force.
