Pros

Free Starbucks coffee, good benefits.

Cons

There has been a decision to 'right' source the clinical programming. That translates into a forcing out of senior programming talent and the expectation that the remaining staff will train the over seas programmers. Behind this is the assumption that programmers are commodities which can be replaced with cheaper units at no loss. The majority of the management of the programming staff are ex-statisticians with the attitude that the only reason anyone would program is because they couldn't make the grade as a statistician. Since they had programmed to do homework assignments in school they believe that they understand the issues inherent in clinical programming and any attempts to inject professional concepts of reuseability and standards are unnecessary and a waste of resources. Pros

+ The work atmosphere was great. + The pay was above average. + The site and offices were beautiful. + The benefits were great. I'd say if you can get a job there, then it's still a great job. As I'd hope they're done downsizing and out-sourcing. But I don't know how many IT-related jobs would be in the East Hanover site anymore. Cambridge, MA probably has some openings. And their European and India offices probably have the most positions.

Cons

- Unfortunately, the East Hanover site has severely downsized in the last 3 years. - They've outsourced at least one entire Division overseas. - They've torn down around half the buildings in East Hanover, since they were no longer occupied and could sell / rent the land to other companies. Frankly, until their outsourcing and lay-offs, it was a GREAT place to work. But with the recent changes, I don't know how much I can recommend working there purely based on job security.

Pros

The products are great for the patients

Cons

It's all about the money and costs - Novartis doesn't care about anybody, period.
