Pros

Salary 401k Pension Healthcare benefits

Cons

Many leaders in ED or higher roles are just in it for themselves. I have personally experienced bullying, incivility, and yelling between leaders in meetings. I have had leaders treat me and people in our meetings as children, reprimanding them, embarrassing them. And I, along with others, have filed formal complaints about this behavior and it seems the only response that has been given is - we'll coach the offender. It also feels like the organization makes things much easier for men. There are very few women in leadership roles and the caliber of women in LT feels much higher than any of the men. I know of several EDs who lack the experience to head their technical departments, yet they were hired - with no one else being interviewed. The most recent re-org was intending to correct many of these culture issues but little was done to put leaders in place who are empathetic, supportive, and lead to develop their teams. Unless you're getting a life-changing amount of money and you're planning on staying here only 12-18 my months - DON'T JOIN THIS ORGANIZATION

Pros

Good science. Good resources. Good management training opportunities.

Cons

Most toxic work environment I have ever experienced. Managers only focus on managing "up" to move ahead, often at the cost of their reports. No internal promotions and little recognition for quality work. Speak up and be cut off at the knees culture, even private discussions with manager. Employee review process generally used to punish those who do not fit the "Stepford" employee model. HR's primary role is to protect the abusive middle management corps.

Pros

Mission of company is good and there are some good drugs on the market for patients

Cons

Continual state of re-organization. Every 12 months they rip up the structure and start again. The Communications leadership team put more value on self-promoters and shiny objects, versus value adding and teamwork. The function head who has come in embodies this as there is no understanding of the function, the work or how to lead and inspire teams.
