Pros

The great people around the firm Good benefits - many of which have been cut however

Cons

Madison Dearborn took Nuveen private at the top of the market - as a result, the firm is under extreme pressure to generate revenues and/or cut costs. There are many entrepreneurial people in the firm, unfortunately, executive management is detached from the people who are expected to deliver and doesn't do a good job of monitoring or holding to account those who are responsible for the undertaking. In a business with extremely large gross margins, this type of detachment isn't terminal nor does it result in major pain for shareholders, however, in the new asset management business paradigm it has become a problem for Nuveen and firms like it.

Pros

Executive leadership is forward-thinking and aspirational.

Cons

Programs and initiatives are not given the time or effort to make differences in the employee experience. Organizational changes, restructuring whip-lash and mid-management turnover (small scale layoffs) take there toll on employee morale, team effectiveness and overall culture/morale.

Pros

Lot of good people outside of the senior management ranks.

Cons

Drastic increase in workload during the pandemic. If you work in areas that are not priority for senior management, you will have to make things happen with one hand tied behind your back. Increase in internal politics when TIAA merged with Nuveen, managers did not work with each other to take a holistic view to achieve goals taking into consideration how to make things happen with the resources available (no empathy for partners who may not have the resources needed to achieve mutiple goals at the same time).
