The Shifts are brutal working a rotating 8hr - 5 days in a row that switches between days, nights, and evenings (in that order). Days off rotate with the shifts diminishing in quantity (3- 2-1) meaning you will have only 1 days off everytime you switch from evenings to days.
Work conditions are extreme and dangerous. The building is always 20°F inside than it is outside. So if it's 100° outside, you will be working in 120° temps. They supply large fans but people are always passing out from heatstroke. Broken glass is always littering the floors and OSHA regulations of tripping hazards and safety signs are always being ignored. During my time working here I witnessed 4 forklift crashes and 3 close calls of people almost getting hit - none of which were treated as serious. To add on to their apathy of safety - I had reported a major issue in which finished pallets of heavy glass were failing to stop and falling off their conveyor onto frequently walked ground. Safe guards were not installed due to money and the issue was ignored for months until they addressed fixing a faulty sensor. Had anyone been hit it would have been LETHAL! Speaking of which, the company has had quite a bit of fatalities in the past 10 years. I personally have witnessed coworkers narrowly escape death a few times in my time working for O.I. Glass.
Lastly, it is required for everyone to climb mountains of broken glass to retrieve cardboard tier sheets left over from dumping bad product. Imagine sliding down a 10+ foot high pile of broken glass desperately trying to keep balance to not fall and lacerate yourself.
