Pros

9/80 work schedule. Projects are interesting and provide good technical work experience.

Cons

Unfriendly and highly competitive environment. People work in silos. Management is known to have favorites with perceptions of employees that can make or break their careers, in some cases, without even knowing or working with the employee. There is no time for training or mentoring. Heavy work load for reservoir engineers. 9/80 work schedule is nice if you can actually take your Friday off. If you work at Oxy, plan on logging in at 7 am or earlier, not eating lunch or eating at your desk and working at least a 10 hour day which will not be good enough. Very poor environment for mid to late career professionals!

Pros

Oxy as a whole has great benefits: 401(k), pension, health, and overall retirement.

Cons

I cannot speak for Oxy E&P, just the midstream and marketing side. The organization has long hours; 55/60+ per week, even outside of the financial monthly close. Additionally, management has decided to implement three organizational structure changes which have caused instability at the analyst/accountant level. Furthermore, the corporate controller has unrealistic expectations on deliverable timelines which adds additional pressure on each analyst. Finally, the organization decided to implement a new trading software, new team structures, and type of deliverables.

Pros

Salary and benefits are wonderful and the 9/80 schedule is great if you work in a department that allows you to actually take the day off.

Cons

Facetime required and 9/80 schedule ignored in most offices. The company is filled with "mafias" and failing to recognize the interconnections can be fatal for your career.
