JUST DON'T

Pros

Being IN the classroom with the students; most REALLY want to learn. The rest of it ...not so much. I signed up to TEACH not double as an 'admin.'

Cons

The rest of it ... incredibly bureaucratic, disorganized, with some exceptions support is virtually non existent, communication is sorely lacking, (the right & left hands DEFINITELY do not talk to each other), etc. No one (NO ONE!) expects to get rich as an adjunct but the difference between what they pay and what is expected is not just a gap but more like a canyon (many/most pay more). Spent way too much time doing administrative chores. In the dictionary, under the phrase "how to leverage your adjuncts" it should say "see OCC"

Title II - We're a family

Pros

The ability to work with students from all across the state. Helping students to realize their goals of achieving a higher level of education to advance their status in life. A really beautiful campus!!

Cons

The Title II program is nothing more than a way for certain family members to work together. . If you enjoy being treated like a 5 year old at work, then by all means, this is the job for you. This is the kind of department where the participants are treated better than their own staff. Family members work together in this division. The quality of the courses are subpar and students cannot learn adequately if they are being removed while their classes are in session. They have the general attitude that they can do things, but you can’t. They even discouraged me from taking my time as sick time or days off. They could have time off, but I couldn’t. I was struggling to get my lunch break in and was even told that I could only take 45 minutes. Two sisters work together in this division, which is disheartening. In fact, you may not know this, but a member of the staff was completing certification for another position outside of the college. Isn’t that nice to know– that is time theft. All the while the newly hired case managers have to train and sit with, while their own work piles up, two newly hired staff members with an 8th grade level capacity for understanding how normal workplace activities exist. Yes, I had to sit and watch two people do their job, while I’m trying to learn mine. It is the job of them to train other people and to do her job. To make this experience even more dysfunctional, One of the weirdest situations that I encountered on my last day was how the gentleman working in my office told me that was not allowed to speak with me while I was working. Isn’t that odd. A great boss sets an example, by working side-by-side with her staff and showing them the ropes. The boss wants to get in and do the same work that the employees perform. As an added bonus, no employees in this office could wear jeans, this was a directive from them, but someone in leadership wore jeans on Nov. 14, 2025. I’m glad that I did not stick around much longer and endure the corruption that existed. I doubt any changes will be made with the existing structure. Lastly, I’m willing to bet that they will not understand most of what is written here.
