Pros

Pros: I'm employed. I'm not homeless thanks to roommates. It's cold inside. If I get a heart attack from stress, I'm already at a hospital. I get to wear a uniform with the Ochsner logo on it. It makes feel important. Penniless but important. Some nice Doctors who are just as unhappy as we are. Some nice patients.

Cons

For us little people, we get 1-star pay to keep us broke enough to come to work and.... you'll be living paycheck to paycheck, ok? 5-star workload 10-star lunch prices Stress from coworkers, managers, and supervisors. These highschoolers never grow up, they become caregivers. 3 minute grace period Bullies Bullies' Bullies The worst experience of my life.

Pros

- Flexibility - Good Benefits

Cons

- Pay (very low for the work that you are expected to do) - Competing priorities (makes it confusing to know what to focus on when the system, service line, and regional areas are all focused on different and often varying goals) - Upper management and physician leaders are a hit or miss depending on campus - Not a lot of support as a middle manager - Limited opportunity for growth - Expected workload compared to other organizations can be overwhelming and unpractical in a lot of cases - Minimal to no onboarding depending on campus (sink or swim) -Burnout is fairly common among middle mangers

Good Ole Boys system

Pros

15 Work/life days given to managers and above in addition to general purpose time accrual

Cons

Low tolerance of people from diverse backgrounds. Ochsner maintains a lot of pride for the city of New Orleans, particularly for the Saints. They allow employees to wear Saints colors on Fridays. However if you are not a native or disinterested in the Saints, you will be made to feel excluded. This is the culture the management fosters. If they don’t like you, they will find a way to get rid of you. The HR department will help a manager carefully craft a termination so it will pass the EEOC sniff test.
