Pros

Seemingly academic institution with some of the most high tech equipment in the area. Physicians and staff for the most part work very hard and are diligent with their responsibilities. Discount for the Ochsner owned fitness center. Has supported education in the past with support for meeting presentations.

Cons

Awful HR/ Talent Acquisition department with little attention to individual needs and replies to interested candidates for important positions. Management is very separated from the needs of hard working clinical staff. Certain non-clinical departments obtain delivered lunches consistently to their meetings and medical staff seldom have time for any lunch at all. Crazy! Levels of bureaucracy have exploded so an attempt to improve a system problem is rarely completed. Hospital Upper management have unfortunately created a micro-managed and non-trusting atmosphere. Strongly believe that middle management is not totally honest with upper management due to the fear of losing jobs, which by the way has been happening to some of Ochsner's finest talent. And yet, some of the employees that probably need to go are maintained despite numerous suspensions and behavioral issues. Also, the system seems to put more money into the marketing of how great we are, and less into the actual infra structure which will eventually implode due to denial and lack of attention.

Pros

Teamwork between staff nurses is fantastic. Continue enhancing telemedicine technologies.

Cons

Working in the ED, I felt that we hustle the patients around in an effort to see more volume. The patients are dissatisfied and so are the employees. 12 hour shifts stretch to 14 or 16 hours and there is rarely even time to eat. Some say this is just "modern nursing," but I feel this type of overwork is inexcusable.

Not what I expected

Pros

Being able to help people

Cons

Health benefits were expensive, lack of promotions, no support for professionals that work in the field. Driving my car was apart of my job, but there was no company insurance coverage or cell phone provided while in the field. Pay is low even in professional positions.
