Pros

-Job stability is top-notch. -Micro-management is not very prevalent. -Lots of good people with very good intentions. -Work is rewarding even though not on the front-lines of patient care.

Cons

-Some of the management has been around so long that they can not be gotten rid of even though they are not up to speed with today's technologies to stay relevant. -Training is a joke (Internal training on bland subjects does not better anyone's career. Send IT workers to IT certification courses so they can learn "hard" skills vice "soft" skills). -CIO has no technical background, only working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system (EPIC) and therefore only sees EMR workers as worthwhile to the organization (Lean more on CTO for this in the future). -Pay rates are much lower than any other employer in the city for IT employees, showing that IT is not valued. -Annual raises are a joke even for employees with reviews that show stellar performance. -Even when not on-call, you are always on-call. -Disagreement with managers, even when done respectfully, will black list you from advancement (even if you are arguing to help potentially save patients' lives). -Lack of communication when new deployments are going on is downright embarrassing, causing IT people to jump through hoops to meet last minute deadlines.

Low pay, horrible benefits

Pros

Job security, good security, but not much else

Cons

Pay isn't competitive, benefits are a joke. No advancement, or transfer opportunities unless you're in "the club".
