I love my job

Pros

I really enjoy the remote working, but also the work itself. It requires a certain amount of pattern recognition and research/investigation that fits my skillset. It also requires one to be able to be objective and to moderate from outside of any personal preconceptions you have about people.

Cons

Sometimes it can be really boring, honestly, and you need to be able to still stay focused when it is boring. You also need to be able to see things which you really don't want to see. We sometimes are forced to look at quite horrific aspects of humanity which I'd rather not have to even know about, but I balance this by reminding myself that it needs to be done and someone needs to do it. This is also a skillset that many don't consider when they think they'd like to be a moderator, the ability to not let the truly awful things become a part of you.

Pros

Site can be exploited for dates. User feedback often hilarious. Located near an excellent Italian restaurant. XBox available for use on thursday afternoons.

Cons

Employees are treated as replaceable automatons, in-company experience considered expendable. Employees are explicitly and implicitly disrespected by management. Enormous emphasis placed on the appearance of working over the achievement of goals. Multiple and multiplying project management solutions appear and disappear, and are never consistent with one another. Senior management members make demonstrably false claims about dating and engineering. Top-down communication virtually nil, bottom-up communication generally ignored. Critique of superiors' ideas simultaneously requested and discouraged. Physical office environment is spare, dusty, and poorly lit.

Pros

Some of the brightest people at the IC level, but most of them leaving over the last year or two Usual tech benefits e.g. food, snack, happy hours (these have decreased) Work life balance great, can coast if you want to Parental leave and fertility

Cons

Nepotism everywhere - not many new hires who have actually interviewed, hiring process not respected, candidates will get the job if they know management even if they fail interview Toxic management, not intelligent with fragile egos - very Amazonian, no product innovation - always asked to copy competitors No accountability for decisions or attrition in company, poor employee retention farewells every month D&I is a joke, management has actively said to not continue focusing on diversity initiatives, all white male management often complaining it's hard to be a white man in this environment. No room for minorities here they're all leaving! Monitoring of private slack messages and usage
