Pros

Merit-based advancement and the people are incredibly intelligent and motivated but also down-to-Earth which makes working with them enjoyable. This is particularly true given how management consulting can in general, at times, be a tough industry with long hours and frequent travel.

Cons

When trying to woo college grads to come work for us, we can't rest on our "laurels" of being McKinsey, Bain, or BCG -- we have to work hard to help them understand that we do work as or more powerful and insightful and that our people are just as talented. While this is doable, it can constantly feel like you're having to fight the same battle to convince these people when all you feel you'd really need is to have them work on a case for 2-3 months and they would see how great the firm is without needing any convincing!

Pros

The people are excellent. Very smart, very interesting. Doesn't have a 'one size fits all' approach -- different people fit in and are appreciated. Anyone can offer new ideas and be heard -- not just Partners. Culture is really good "Work hard, play hard" and a true meritocracy.

Cons

Hours an be long, but usually its worth it. Complicated organizational structure, so difficult to know who's who and what's what.

Pros

The base salary is supposedly better than that of other firms. Not sure how true that is.

Cons

Everything they tell you at recruiting is false. No ongoing training program. No work-life balance. Professional feedback process is a joke. We're supposed to have an "ownership mentality" but as soon as the firm enters a downturn all transparency goes out the window. The casework we've been doing has just gotten more and more uninteresting and the people who have been getting promoted to Partner don't have any leadership skills. The clients think of us as extra bodies to churn out models and crunch numbers. The way they treat women is what you'd expect from an investment banking firm (remember those?) in the 80s.
