Cons
I was hired to do a route in a metropolitan suburb. I was assigned to a territory supervisor who was to do my FIVE to SEVEN WEEKS of training. However, after 7 DAYS, I was supposed to be fully up to speed. The first few days were ok, then the personality of the person training me started leaking out, and their disappointment with the job spilled over onto my training. Your "trainer" is still required to make their route sales. Sales = Money. At the same time they are training you, they are responsible for their route. I was hired in their peak season. Did I slow down the process? Yes. Was it my fault? No. Supervisor blamed me when in actuality was mad at management. Problems: I have worked with plan-o-grams in route sales for over 8 years. Plan-o-grams set by this company are not followed, because there is no accountability from management. Every store is different, yet you are required to be a mind reader and know what is what, in a store you've never been, looking at products you are just learning about, and are expected to jump in there, be perfect, have speed, be timed, and be comfortable being judged and micromanaged by a person standing behind you who is angry at you for holding them back. Manager's van was a mess filled with boxes, but you better know what's in there, to avoid being treated like an idiot, even though you have only been with the company for 6 days. I was expected to work the handheld and printer in the dark on the last day. Then I was yelled at by the supervisor for holding him/her back the day before, accused of causing them a 3-hour commute time the day before, after dropping me off. In actuality, the REAL reason for the supervisor's longer-than-normal drive time was bad weather and a late start on the supervisor's part (showed up ONE HOUR AND 25 minutes LATER than was scheduled for that morning) In no way should I have been blamed or told on Day 8 that I needed to "speed it up" because I was holding them back.... I was humiliated when I made an error in the dark on a handheld I barely knew, using a printer and ripping a paper early because I couldn't SEE it and was too afraid to ask to have the light turned on. The rip in the paper caused a ridiculous outburst directed towards me. Out of fear, I left, choosing not to allow this person to bully and intimidate me, and make me the brunt of their issues with the job, or whatever was going wrong in their personal life at that moment. Do as I say; not as I do. Products were light, easily managed, easily carried, but because I was trained in different ethnic areas, and because how late it was in the day determined how much was done in a store vs. what was supposed to be done....I ended up more confused about what was expected as the days progressed. I was constantly reminded how badly other areas were performing their jobs. A big ego is a heavy to carry around. A conference call indicated we were to add Spring fashion colors, but in practice, we were doing the opposite. I didn't ask why.
