Disappointing Leadership and "People Team"

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Unique industry with interesting goals. Hybrid work environment. There are some very talented people here Solid CEO, he's smart, kind, and direct

Cons

Disturbing people in leadership on the HR side. One of them casually mentioned allowing her kids to dress up like homeless people due to the rise in homelessness in Austin. Inappropriate handling of ADA issues Some leadership have a difficult time with accountability and communication Unrealistic expectations on small teams - far beyond "start up" norms Extremely unrealistic timelines Toxic and unprofessional personalities Lots of clique mentality, especially on the "People Team" Lack of diversity and women in leadership Pay was below the industry norm for my role and expertise No career development from direct manager

Pros

Great benefits, easy-going schedules and an open floor for improvements and new technologies.

Cons

Severely misrepresentative of social values. Despite putting in solid work rebuilding core systems and tracking compliance across the company often staying up overnight to work with their sibling team in India, I was let go for "disinterest". Not for performance reasons, not for any reasonable reason, but because I seemed "disinterested" in the events around the company. I performed my roles' duties as requested and even handled projects from start to finish with the tools I was given, helping to advance the IT team's processes by a considerable amount during my time there, but my quiet and more solitary nature was seen as "disinterest", and I was let go on that basis alone not taking into account the work that I put in.

Pros

- Leadership is awesome and bought in - Mission-driven company - Opportunity to move up or around (make your job yours) - Great culture and office environment (if you are in Austin) - I really do enjoy coming to work - Flexible PTO and hybrid work environment

Cons

- Growth hasn't been insanely strong, but we've also had a tough few years economically - Start-up woes of sometimes having no processes or chasing the latest and greatest without prioritization
