I.T. - Get your experience and leave

Pros

There are not many I.T. jobs available in Yuma, this one pays some of the highest. Most of the coworkers are great and fun to work with, all in the sinking ship together. Small teams, ability to work with and handle a lot of different equipment and processes. Fast paced environment.

Cons

The I.T. division appears to be beyond help in "righting the ship" with the current management in place. The leadership problems are beyond help, when those in charge are incapable of self reflection to see that they are a major cause of the problems and the creator of most of the issues within the department. Leadership seems to run with the policy of pointing fingers at everyone but themselves, which starts at the top with an alcoholic CIO with anger issues. The I.T. staff, the ones actually working, are left picking up the pieces of an ever changing environment that has no direction or true end goal in mind; if one exists it is not shared. It is hard to have direction when priorities change on a whim, and a project budget does not align with the alleged goals laid out from the top. The entire organization is full of leadership, but lacks a leader. Employees that put in the work and show a passion for it are not only pushed to the side, but typically overworked or abused (both verbally and thrown under the bus when projects/tasks inevitably go wrong). This place can turn amazing employees into mediocre ones. Forget help from H.R. they do not exist to help employees, just their leadership. E.L.T. has said that the bad or negative morale issues are employee problems, not a result of leadership. If you have to be in Yuma, YRMC has no real competition in pay and benefits. Get in, learn everything you can and then leave.

Pros

Availability of extra shifts most of the year. City has low cost of living.

Cons

Staffing an issue at times but most likely the same at other hospitals. Management doesn't seem to be aware of front-line issues such as less than effective resource nurses.
