Pros

Pay and benefits are good. They have to be. It's the only thing besides lack of options that keep people working here.

Cons

The IT Division is completely dysfunctional. The recently promoted CIO has a habit of verbally abusing employees. He makes unreasonable requests and expects the department to fulfill those requests. His arrogance and lack of understanding of basic IT principles makes it difficult to work with him effectively. Document any conversations you have with him. He will forget conversations only a day or two later. If you are made promises in the job offer that are not written out and specified, you can expect not to see them. He will not defend his people if they are blamed for anything. If someone is having an email issue or other network/application problem, he will automatically side with the accuser without performing any fact finding. You are on your own. The Infrastructure department has had some upheaval due to one person who has violated policy and continues to be employed. Because of this, trust in the department has been eroded. Management has been playing a 'gotcha' game with employees, enforcing the rules for some, but not everyone. If you are not white, consider working somewhere else. Recent disciplinary actions have seen three non-white employees fired, while others continue to work that have done and continue to do the same. Training will be required for employees, but the training is specific to the organization. You are required to take the training, and also required to pay back the cost if you leave before a set time frame. I would caution anyone considering coming to Yuma to understand that it is an island. There are not a lot of options once you get here. If you do well in an environment that strives to place blame, but does nothing to correct problems, this is your place. If you are professional and require that of others around you, you will not be happy here.

Pros

Great people. Great benefits. I loved working there. I feel the people really cared about their employees and no union was needed.

Cons

The summer time heat was a little much. There was so much change that was needed. Building needed updating but that was in the process when I left.
