      Great talent and resources, but toxic

      Pros

      A lot of high-profile talent, compute, good salary. Many of the problems are ambitious. Can move very fast (though quality and long-term planning may be terrible). Good for technical growth.

      Cons

      Opaque management, constant scandals, high rates of firings. Growth problems, hiring toxic people which take advantage of the opaque structure. Not much expertise outside of the main domains, surprisingly bad in some cases. It looks like the management thinking that they cracked llms so everything else is simple. Cult-like company culture. Some people are even proud of having a poor WLB.

      Pros

      OpenAI is a mission-driven organization. Everyone here is aligned with a shared purpose, which adds significant meaning to our daily work. Knowing that the efforts contribute to a larger goal enhances job satisfaction and instills a strong sense of pride in being part of it.

      Cons

      Fast paced. Interview tasks occupy too much time.

      Pros

      + Great benefits. + Top of market compensation. + Intelligent, passionate, mostly friendly. + Great food options.

      Cons

      - Work/Life balance is non-existent - Pressure to interview making it impossible to focus on your day to day - We are now a product company so intense pressure to ship consumer facing products instead of focusing on research - Constant feeling of being understaffed, performance review isn't very elaborate - Leadership is too inexperienced and doesn't seem up to the task to address growing pains in the ways more experienced leaders would. - We seem to be straying away from our mission in order to drive revenue. - Confusing equity options. - Lack of accountability from the top down. - Lack of diversity, not just race but education and background and it feels like most of the recent hires come from Stripe, Meta, or Google.
