Pros

There is no barrier between you, your manager, and your skip-level manager. Everyone from the team sits in the same space and they are very approachable. Likely to learn a lot of different technologies. As a person fresh out of university, I was put on a team without any training and expected to learn while working, this led to a lot of hands-on learning.

Cons

Network as much as you can and always be ready to share what you are working on. Unless you explain and present your work, people don't know about it.
