Pros

-Optum has a consulting group much like Big 4 and other consulting firms. -WLB is excellent. You can cruise for years without putting in any real effort. -Great colleagues who are smart and capable.

Cons

-Joined the consulting group after having had stints with Big 4 and BAH... -Pay and title for my experience made absolutely no sense; they brought me in at least two level too low. -Sat on the bench for months; was arbritrarily aligned to a career manager who didn't have a clue how to manage a senior level person like myself. -My hiring manager (VP level) reached out exactly two times over 3 years. -No real career growth for M and D level folks; you only thrive as a junior level resource or a VP at Optum. They love young and cheap. -The biggest thing I will remember about Optum (UHG) is that they did not offer me paternity leave in my first year. I had to take PTO. The biggest healthcare company is the US (maybe the world) did not offer me paternity leave in my first 12 months!

Pros

People are smart, compassionate, and harding working. It feel very much like a family

Cons

Operationally there are lots of issues for an IT healthcare company. Lots of time is wasted due to inefficiency.
