Pros

The only Pro I can think of currently would be the employee comradery. Because of the horrible management you find plenty to bond with your coworkers over.

Cons

The fear of never knowing when you will get the ax and for what reason. HR hasn't proved to be of much help to the employees when management decided they no longer like them. The entire company is a mess. Severe lack of order and proper procedure across the board.

Pros

--Work-life balance is decent, and after lots of tenure with the company PTO is nice --New CEO is at least saying the right things, although he has yet to take any substantive action on the company's many problems

Cons

--I was all-but told that they had discriminated against me in pay and promotions because I'm female --Leadership chases whatever's popular on LinkedIn and fails to think critically about what the business actually needs --They messed up my standard, uncomplicated maternity leave and made it a major source of stress --They are removing WFH options, one of their few huge bonuses --There is surface-level promotion of inclusion, but it's a mirage. Racism and misogyny have become common

Pros

Optum is full of incredibly smart, driven, and capable people. During my time there, I had the opportunity to work with teams that were collaborative and truly committed to making a difference in healthcare. The scale of impact you can have is significant, and there are good resources and tools available depending on your role.

Cons

Unfortunately, the culture can be significantly undermined by poor leadership and an increasing focus on cost-cutting over people. After years of high performance and strong contributions to my previous team, I ended up under a new manager who failed to provide clear expectations, regular feedback, or any meaningful support. Without warning, I received a poor performance rating and was soon after informed that my position was being eliminated. Despite my track record, this effectively blocked me from transferring within the company and left me without a path forward. The experience was demoralizing and poorly handled, with zero accountability from management.
